Shooting with Christophe Mourthé and Peter W. Czernich, part 2/3
AUGUST 2004.
August 4th, -6:30pm-
I’ll take a few moments here to briefly describe my first meeting with Christophe and Danny. Our meeting took place in a hotel restaurant near the Place de la Concorde (where I took a picture of the fountain and the obelisk as I passed by.) I got lost once again, but this time on St-Honoré Street where I was able to confirm that France really knows what style is! Even just casually walking around, all the women wear high heels. Sometimes they are very high ones, but mostly they have 1-2” heels. Thankfully, I wasn’t too late, and to my relief I didn’t make everyone wait too long for me, as I hate keeping people waiting. At the restaurant I was able to meet Danny, who is an incredibly beautiful blond woman with a cheerful and passionate personality, and Christophe, who is more timid and quiet. Also present were Christophe’s hairdresser, Thierry, and Danny’s husband, Roberto. The meal was wonderful; The French know not only style, but wine and food as well! YUM!
After the meal and a few glasses of wine (Oops!) we went to Christophe’s photography studio so I could try on the clothes that Danny had brought. And what clothes! One of these outfits is a black gown with white feathers for a collar. I think it makes for a slightly Native American look, and that it is very unusual, as we rarely see feathers sewn onto latex.
The bottom of the gown fans out in a mermaid tail, which gives it a very dramatic look. The second outfit is a black dress cut at knee length. It is also decorated with feathers, red this time, and has a belted waist. Very cute, and I find that for latex red is the colour that best suits me. The third outfit is a top with green peacock-like feathers, and a few studs. It comes with a skirt with opens in the front and panties also covered in studs. It’s a bit more rocker style than the other two. If I had to choose, I’d say the first one is my favourite. I love gowns, as you surely already know. I find they suit me better than dresses that fall to the knee like the second one, as I have small legs and thus a long dress or a very short one shows them off better. But all three outfits are great! In my opinion the gown would be even better with red feathers, but the white will be different and will give me a more Native American look. What do you guys think?
For those of you curious as to what Christophe’s photo studio is like, well, I’d have to describe it as fun, intriguing, and filled with stuff.
Christophe rents a place with two floors. His studio is on the first floor, while his office is on the second. Everywhere, and I mean everywhere; you find stuffed animals, all types of toys, costumes, shoes, and boxes. On the walls an array of clocks competes with his photographs. His work has made more than one photographer blush! All over the house there are stuffed chickens covered in jewellery, handbags, hats, and even cigarettes! They really made me laugh, and I’d love to bring one home with me. On the second floor, Christophe has live turtles, and big ones at that! All this brings to mind parties, children, games, and art. It’s a place filled with “treasures” and it’s difficult not to admire them all. All this seems cluttered, but Christophe assured me that he remembers all the accessories and clothing that he has perfectly. In short, an incredible place where I could spend hours admiring and touching everything!
After trying on trying on the clothes and visiting the studio, I returned to the hotel around 5pm. Tonight, I am going to have a drink at the home of Alexandra, a professional dominatrix in Europe.
-9pm-
I have just come back from having a glass of champagne with Christophe, Danny, her husband, and Alexandra. I did not know Alexandra before this, and I am happy to have met her. In my life I have met many Mistresses, and I have found that they often have little respect for men, and sometimes hate them. It is as though they are constantly in competition with men, and some even seem to me to have taken the job for revenge; but not Alexandra. She is really a charming and surprisingly beautiful woman. She laughs all the time and obviously knows how to draw the line between her work in domination and her personal life. Her apartment is sublime; there is even a dungeon and a dressing room where one can view all sorts of clothes and boots that would give more than one person pleasant dreams. Everything is decorated in a style similar to the 1800’s, which gives the apartment a classic and tasteful look. On her sofa, a large tri-coloured cat lay sleeping, while her 18 year-old poodle trailed behind. I felt very comfortable in this cozy Paris apartment, and the champagne started to get to my head, as I hadn’t eaten since lunch. Thus, Christophe and I left around 9:30, ignoring the protests from Danny and Alexandra, and here I am back at the hotel. It is now time for me to go to sleep. Tomorrow I have a big day ahead of me from what Danny and Alexandra say, as they have both worked with Christophe before. So hurry, sleep! I will talk to you again tomorrow…
August 5th, -8am-
I did not sleep at all last night. Maybe I dozed, but that’s all. Last night, I started to fall deeply asleep, when all of a sudden a child in one of the neighbouring houses started to cry and scream. Then a man (maybe his father) started to yell, which made the child cry harder.
From that moment on, every sound from outside kept me maddeningly awake. After all, I wanted to be in shape for my first shoot with Christophe! But I couldn’t sleep so I decided to get up at 6:30 and go for a walk and some breakfast. Let me tell you, in Paris, even at 6:30 in the morning the guys flirt! I noticed that it is mostly the Algerians who are constantly trying to score. They are visibly confidant and also very charming. I don’t know the culture here so I always try to respond with at least a smile, but this just seems to encourage them. Or, if I don’t respond, they continue shouting “How’s it going?” or “Hey! Hey!” at me until I turn around, or become aggressive and frustrated if I continue to ignore them. Let’s just say I’m having a hard time finding a happy medium… Finally, I wandered the streets of Montmartre and saw the famous Moulin Rouge cabaret. After seeing the movie with Nicole Kidman, I was expecting a grander exterior architectural structure, but you know how Hollywood movies are! Afterwards, I had breakfast and returned to my room. It is now almost time to go to Christophe’s studio…
Friday August 6th, 10:30 am
Yeah, yeah, I did indeed say Friday, the day after my shoot with Christophe. It’s just that last night I was way too tired to write, and I had NO trouble sleeping. Hurray!
So, how did the shoot go? First off, Walter the make-up artist started my make-up around 9:30am and finished around 11am. He gave me smoky eyes along with some white, to go with my outfit with the white feathers.
My lips were done in a pretty natural manner, and my beauty mark on my right cheek was accentuated with a bit of black. The make-up was very glamorous and sexy, but in very good taste. Afterwards, Thierry the hairdresser put hot rollers in my hair while we had lunch. He then styled my hair to one side and pinned in two white-feathered accessories, one of which was in fact a necklace made by Danny. The effect was fantastic! I then put on the black gown with the white feathers, and to my surprise only one of the two gloves. Who would have thought it? Just one glove! But it was very original and different! I was also given a white whip with which to pose. Then I started posing for Christophe. His lighting was centered on me, and would ask me to hold a pose for several minutes. Christophe is the type of photographer who moves around a lot, shooting the pose from different angles. He likes serious and stern looks, and is not fond of smiles. At most, he’ll accept a smirk. He loves seeing confidence in women, and does his best to capture it. At first I was a bit disoriented with not being able to move much, but by the second outfit I was getting used to it.
The 2nd outfit was Danny’s knee-length black dress with red feathers. Thierry styled my hair differently, and this time pinned one of the red-feathered gloves in my hair! Who would have thought it? He wanted there to be some red feathers in my hair. He was able to totally hide the glove with my hair, leaving only the red feather visible atop my head. What talent! For the make-up, Walter darkened my eyes even more, giving me a more mysterious look. We then went back to the photos. I felt a bit more confidant, but I still didn’t feel that I was at my best. Deep down, I hope I wasn’t deceiving Christophe too much, but I kept thinking about other things to keep my confidence up. It’s not really that he was demanding, but more that it is not the way that I am used to working. It was also his first time working with me, so both of us had to do some adjusting…
For the 3rd outfit we used my red dress from House of Harlot. My hair was done in a 1950’s pin-up style, and my lips were made-up with a very bright red. We then started taking pictures with one side of the dress, the left, below my breast. I had put my sword jewellery in my left nipple piercing for this series of pictures, and we wanted to show it. I was once again wearing only one opera glove, making it both a retro look, as well as modern because of the nipple piercing. I would have liked a long kitchen knife to give me a more unreal and dangerous look, but Christophe got the idea to instead put fake blood on my pierced nipple. It was GENIUS! Both sexy and scary at the same time. I love that!
Then I took off the nipple piercing because it isn’t quite healed (This is my 3rd time piercing it) and it always hurts. We put the dress properly back on my breast, I put on the second glove, and I continued to pose backed by a wall being used as a backdrop; and this time held a very heavy silver gun over my head. It was really very heavy. I had cramp in my arm. But, it was fun.
The 4th outfit was the open studded skirt, the top, and a hat with green feathers that belongs to Danny. Thierry put the hat on the side rather that in the front, which gave it a lot of style, and Walter added some green to my eyes along with some little blue sparkles on my face and right ear. All in all it was very beautiful and looked very masquerade. It was at that moment that Danny and her husband arrived. It was just perfect to take a group photo :) I then posed once more, this time without accessories (I think… you see, I have a very bad memory) and then I went to change. I think that since this outfit resembled the first two with the feathers, Christophe wasn’t too inspired and so the minute he found the pose he was looking for, there was no need to continue in this outfit. This makes him very different from the other photographers I have worked with. Christophe doesn’t do very long sets with a single outfit, maybe only 30 minutes, which took me by surprise. He prefers standing poses and less those sitting and crouching. He really knows what he’s looking for.
Finally, the 5th outfit was a blue schoolgirl top, a blue posture collar, and a blue corset all from Polymorphe, with a pencil skirt from I don’t know where that Christophe had. Thierry once again put my hair up in a different way, only very funky this time, and I had no make-up change. I think everyone was pretty tired; it was 7pm. Once I was dressed, Christophe had the idea to handcuff me and wrap me in a big thick chain. We took a few pictures of me with my hands stretched out trying to break the handcuffs, and then Christophe got the idea to put a crucifix made of some kind of plaster in my hands. He really liked seeing my stick my tongue out, that one, and it gave the pictures a lot of character! We took a few shots and then agreed to call it a day. Both of us were exhausted, and later while he drove me to my hotel, he jokingly said that I really made him work. However, I don’t think I did half of what I could have done to bring expression and intensity to the pictures. But I’m not disappointed with my experience with Christophe: He’s really an angel! I hope to be able to work with him on other occasions, because it is a good opportunity for me to experiment with another type of modelling which I find very enjoyable. And I have to admit he’s really an excellent photographer! I’m very excited to see the pictures and to show them to all of you :)
