October 22nd Time for a little report and it will be a kind of diary of my day.
Well, the 6 hours drive from Montreal to Toronto was a bit long if you ask me! Fortunatly, Martin, Mario (polymorphe designer) and I went a day in advance so we could relax and enjoy our day on saturday. Well, Martin and Mario woke up at 8h30 while I slept until noon! So, during the afternoon, they went to bed for a nap while I was hanging around on the streets to find sex shops and fetish shoe stores. Sadly, I did not find anything!
So, I came back at 4pm to wake up the two monsters and then, I did my hair (some curly twist on top) and we all went for diner (we were about 20 persons from Montreal!). The service was long and I got back to the hotel at 8pm! I had not much time left for my make-up so I went for some classic smokey eyes but I added an evil touch to it. My outfit was a typical latex red ao dai with the evil look, I looked like a kind of street fighter warrior
So, Mario and I got to the ball around 10 pm (Martin was already there for pictures. It's so easy for a man to dress up anyways!) The place was PACKED! It was almost too much for me. I would say, there was 3000 people that night! and the main room was big but there was a special VIP space in the middle of it to let the photographers and VIP's watch the show at a better spot. Because of this middle hall, it was tough to walk in the room so I stayed in the back in the smaller room where the check coat was. I didnt want to go in the VIP an let my friends behind.
The fashion show started not very late, maybe at 11 pm. The theme was asian so there was 3 Geisha at the beggining, followed by the guards protecting the emperor. I kind of forgot what was the rest of the show, but the choregraphy was good. It was all leather and some of the outfit had some hairbrush paint on it to make designs and drawings. This is why I did not recognised the only catsuit in latex from Polymorphe. Too much airbrush to recognised it was in latex, but it looked good. On some of the outfits, I have heard it took 60 hours to do the airbrushing and the guy works 100$/hour! Crazy!
So, after the fashion show, Midori went on stage and did some beautiful bondage with her web ropes. It was good, but I think there was too many people on stage so I could not see where she was exactly. It was a bit chaotic, but it looked good.
All the show was done by NorthBound Leather. It was not too long, well done with nice models (male and females) and good music. The only thing is I am not used to see just one designer in a fashion show so I kind of missed all the latex designers. I like leather but its not what I prefer. Polymorphe's part was suppose to be bigger, but they cut it to just one outfit.
The rest of the evening, I did not really dance. I hang out with Isabeau, Martin and Mario and some firends close to the only bar not too busy to serve us. In the crowd, there was lots of t.v reporters but they didnt know anything about fetish. The questions were not oriented really, just basic questions like : "Do you like the show or the event..." Once, they interviewed me and Liz the editor of whiplash magazine. They didnt even bother to ask her how she started the magazine, if she was at the ball to promote the magazine or just for personnal reasons, etc. I have been interviewed 3 times and every time, it was the same silly questions! Compared to the t.v reporter, there was not many photographers.
Personnaly, I was told the ball in Toronto was much bigger than the ball in London. I think the claim is right. But I dont think it is more fun. The crowd wears only leather and I didnt see lots of very high elaborated outfits. The rooms missed some light; it was tough to see the outfits. But the peole were very friendly and liked to come to us and say hello and meet us.
I will let Martin show you some pictures he took. Mainly, I like the party because I was with people I knew and when we returned to the hotel, we could hang out all together until 6am. The 6 hours drive to come back was ok, but I think I will take the train next time, now that I know Toronto has subway!
